Infant/Toddler

Programs for toddlers include Early Head Start, Help Me Grow, and Child Care.

Parenting and early childhood education and activities is a strong component of this program for families with children birth to three. Early Head Start (EHS) provides comprehensive health services to children and families through prevention and early identification of health and developmental concerns and through links to community health services.  Health and developmental screenings are provided throughout the child’s participation in the program.  EHS staff work with parents and health care professionals to determine if the child is up-to-date on a schedule of age-appropriate preventative and primary care health services.

Early Head Start

Early Head Start (EHS) provides comprehensive health services to children and families through prevention and early identification of health and developmental concerns and through links to community health services.  Health and developmental screenings are provided throughout the child’s participation in the program.  EHS staff work with parents and health care professionals to determine if the child is up-to-date on a schedule of age-appropriate preventative and primary care health services.

Eligibility: Just as with Head Start, Early Head Start (EHS) is a child development program for income-eligible families who meet the Federal poverty guidelines.  The Head Start Program Performance Standards require that at least ten percent of the total number of enrollment opportunities be made available to children with disabilities.

Two Program Option

Home-based
In Home-based settings, children receive comprehensive child development services and their families are supported through weekly home visits and bi-monthly group socialization experiences.

Center-based
Children and families enrolled in center-based programs receive comprehensive child development services in a center-based setting, supplemented with home visits by the child’s teacher and other Early Head Start staff.

Services to Pregnant Mothers
Through prenatal and postpartum health care, prenatal education, and breastfeeding education, pregnant moms have the opportunity to reduce health and developmental problems for their baby.  Prenatal education includes information on typical fetal development, including the risks of smoking and drinking alcohol; what to expect during labor and delivery; nutrition education and postpartum recovery, including maternal depression.  Every pregnant mother develops a Family Partnership Agreement, which outlines and individualizes the program your family will receive during the prenatal period with support from a professional home visitor.

Help Me Grow

Help Me Grow promotes the well-being of young children through home-based specialized services with an emphasis on early intervention and prevention.  Services provided include assessment, family support, case management and parent education.

Child Care

Child Care is provided to children ages 6 weeks to five years of age. Utilizing the framework of Head Start and Step Up To Quality, children are provided with developmentally appropriate care and child educational programming.
