Child Focus CEO Set to Retire After 40 Years of Service

Jim Carter, who has served as CEO of Child Focus, Inc. (CFI) since 1979, has announced that he will retire in June 2019, after 40 years at one of the largest children’s non-profits in Greater Cincinnati. His retirement party is on May 14 from 4:30-7 at The Barn in Mariemont. RSVP here.

He has built a strong executive leadership team that has forged deep community relationships and expanded the CFI footprint while providing top quality early learning, mental health and foster care services to children in need. The Board thanks Jim for his unwavering commitment and dedication to making the difference for children and families in our community. His legacy will continue far beyond his retirement.”
Responsible for management, planning and financial functions since 1979, Jim developed Child Focus from a single-purpose diagnostic center with six staff, a budget of $160,000, serving under 300 children to a multi-purpose agency directly serving over 15,000 children, families and adults in 17 counties with a budget of over $18 million and 320 employees.
CFI provides these services in over 90 locations including schools, early learning centers, pediatric and Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHC), juvenile courts, Job and Family Services, other community locations and in hundreds of homes in southern Ohio including Clermont, Brown, Hamilton, Adams, Highland and Warren counties.
In addition to serving the Greater Cincinnati area, Child Focus community programs and trainings, including suicide prevention, evidence based treatment, school violence and bullying prevention, reach tristate, national and international markets. Through Jim’s leadership, Child Focus has received local, state and national recognition as a leader in early learning and behavioral health services for children and families. A resident of Clermont County for over 30 years, Jim has four children, nine grandchildren and lives in Union Township with his wife, Winnie.
The Board will conduct a national search for Jim’s successor using The Yunker Group, an executive search and fundraising consultancy that combines the diverse and comprehensive talents of a team of professionals who work on a project basis to address specific needs of nonprofit organizations.
